Using themed paper collections in a non themed way October 30, 2009

Hey there!

Today I want to show you 3 layouts I’ve made using themed paper collections but in a non themed way.

The first one I created using Urban Ink collection by Dream Street.  Total boy papers!  Metal, steel, rough around the edges.  I used it to make a girl layout.

For the next two layouts I used holiday themed collections in non holiday ways.

Here I used the Superstition collection from Dream Street Papers.  Total vintage Halloween collection.  I love vintage but personally not a huge fan of Halloween.  So I created this:

Here is a layout I did using the North Pole Nights collection by Nikki Sivils Scrapbooker.  Total cute Christmas line including wind up mice, candy canes, elves and Christmas trees.  Here’s what I made:

I hope you find that you don’t have to use a paper collection only for what it was originally intended for.  Use your patterned paper to work for you!

A Story Of A Sketch October 14, 2009

One day while perusing the gallery over at Two Peas In A Bucket I came across this amazing layout.  This layout to be exact.  How can you not love it?  Wonderful colors, cute details and a fun picture too!  I left praise.  I don’t always leave praise.  Not that I don’t find many, many, many praise worthy projects.  It’s just that there’s only so much time in the day…kwim?

I also happened to notice that with the layout was a sketch and a challenge to create a layout with that sketch.

Since I loved the layout so much I knew I wanted to create my own layout using the sketch.

I read that the sketch was for a challenge for a new kit club called Magpie Club Cute name huh!  I checked out the kit club website and let me tell you these kits are C-U-T-E!!!   What  a fun mix of new scrapping goods with just the right touch of vintage goodness and found items!  So cute and so right up my alley!

Being the ever so slightly nosey gal that I am had to check out who this club was owned by and was pleasantly suprised to find out that she’s a local girl!  Yay Colorado!

So if the sketch wasn’t cute enough, and the name of the kit club wasn’t even more cute enough, she’s a local girl and that just sealed the deal for me!

So here is my take on the sketch for the October challenge over at Magpie Club.

It’s cold outside! October 2, 2009

Here in Colorado it can be warm one day and cold the next.  In fact it can be cold and warm all in the same day!  Right now because we are a 4 season state we are definitely heading into Autumn.  Love this time of year!  But to be honest with you all the wind drives me coo-koo!  The wind is what makes it bone rattling cold here and the wind really messes up my hair!  Vain much?  But seriously curly hair and windy days don’t mesh much.

So if you’re inside a lot more because it’s way too cold to be outside take a gander at some of my latest creations to help pass the time.

Who said that Halloween themed products can only be used for Halloween themed projects?  This is the Boo-tiful collection by Nikki Sivils .  I created the flower by punching out a bunch of scalloped circles from the patterned papers and some black tissue paper.  I painted the top layer with some Shimmerz Paint which is my newest obsession!  I don’t think it photographed as well as I’d like but remember that I told you it was windy outside?  Yeah, cold too!  And my projects kept on being toppled over by the wind!

Next two layouts I created using the September main kit and embellishment kit from Kenner Road.  Sigh…..love them!

I misted the cardstock and the Jillibean letters and then outlined them with my trusty white pen.  The No stamp actually is a No: stamp exclusively from Kenner Road.  I covered the colon up with tape, inked the stamp and then removed the tape.  Voila exactly what I needed!

Oh and this is my dog Wesley.  Mr personality himself personified!  I guess you could consider these pictures outtake but knowing his personality I know he was giving me a major tude.  I’m 98.418% certain that that was exactly what he was thinking when I was attempting to take his picture.

More Kenner Road September goodies.  See how the stamp was intended to be used?  The splotchies on the vintage paper is Distress ink dribbles.  Shimmerz paint around the edges of the cardstock.  Love Shimmerz!!

This is my oldest squirt!  Hard to believe she’s 12 already!  When she was born she was a 5 lb squirt.  Now she’s a 95 lb, 5 foot 7 1/4 inch squirt!

My Funny Kid September 28, 2009

I can always count on my kid to give me a lot of different looks and poses when I take pictures of her.  She’s so willing!  Thanks kiddo!

Two words for you Kenner Road.  Nuff said!

The cute letters are the corrugated alpha from Jillibean Soup .  I spritzed them with Glimmer Mist to change them up a bit.

It’s a gray, gloomy, rainy day outside September 21, 2009

Rather than looking at the yuck outside, I’ll post some pretty projects and look at those instead   It always makes me happy!

For this project I took, borrowed, um…asked my husband for his REI bag.  Used some insanely uber cute Nikki Sivils Boo-tiful collection, purple and black stickles, chipboard letters, ribbon and voila a custom trick or treat bag for the kiddos.

The next project I did used the July kit and an itty bit of the August kit from Kenner Road How can you not love Kenner Road, seriously.

The blue tissue paper I borrowed, asked, ummm….took from my daughter’s birthday gift wrap.  She didn’t mind

Jillibean Goodness September 18, 2009

Hmmm……I wonder why I have some Jillibean projects to share with you all.  Would it have anything to do with trying out for one of the coveted, highly sought after guest design team spots coming up over the next 12 months?  Or could it be purely coincidental?  I’ll let you figure that one out on your own.

As a side note, if I am coveting one of the guest design team spots for Jillibean Soup I hope Jill and Kimber like what they see.  Just saying
